  • Description

Glamping and beer: a match made in heaven! Calypso joins its neighbouring lotus bell tent, a shepherd's hut, a cosy cabin and countless barrels of beer, to make up Kingstone – a real hive of activity that comes with all the hustle and bustle you’d expect of a working micro-brewery. If Ed & Tori aren’t giving tours and talking malts with guests, they’re usually knee-deep in children or prepping pizza dough for the wood-fired oven. In the summer, the glade has a great community vibe and a communal al fresco dining area – perfect for small groups!

Named after kinds of hops – Calypso is a fruity American variety, which, along with Cascade, is used in craft beers  - both tents are decked with simple futons (including hot water bottles in the cooler months) and colourful bunting, with fairy lights and fire pits for marshmallow toasting when it gets dark. Sprawling raspberry and loganberry canes fill the fruit patch between them, there are goats over the fence, and tyre swings in the trees for kids – your laid-back hosts are happy to share it all.

The Wye Valley is full of things to do, stunning scenery, and fantastic local produce (some of which is stocked in the shop) - Tintern with its famous Abbey is along the main road in one direction and the Forest of Dean and Symonds Yat a bit further in the other, for canoeing and boat trips. The bar at the top’s open a few days a week and hosts monthly wood-fired pizza nights. The shop on site has the full Kingstone Brewery range, and if you give Tori some notice she'll stock the cabin's fridge, or if Ed’s around, organise tours and real ale tastings.

  • Facilities

Goldings, Cascade and Calypso share the cooking and washing facilities which are located in an adjacent bluebell glade, surrounded by Oak and Ash trees in a converted British racing Green Mercedes Horse lorry. It has a separate kitchen and eating area with a wood burner. The bathroom has shower, with plenty of hot water. Outside is a large fire pit where one can join sit down and talk to other glampers staying in the 2 Lotus belle tents situated in another meadow. The glade has a great community vibe and a communal al fresco dining area – perfect for small groups!

    At Kingstone Brewery
There are plenty of options at the brewery itself: there's a bar on site where they do a great range of beer which you can pair with a Ploughman's lunch served in summer.
Please note this isn't always open so please liaise with Ed after booking
There are pizza evenings on the first Saturday of every month and there's also the farm shop with cheeses, chutneys and other local bits and pieces.
If you give her some advance notice, Tori can also arrange some supplies ready for when you arrive.

Going out - a few pubs & restaurants worth a try
The Brockweir Inn in Brockweir - (3 miles) a lovely friendly local pub that serves quality home cooked pub food! The Anchor, Tintern - just beside the grand old Abbey, it is a great setting for a relaxing meal.
The Whitebrook at Whitebrook - perfect for if you are looking for something a bit special for a treat - it's Michelin starred too!
    Other options:
    Wye Valley Hotel, Tintern
    Moon and Sixpence, Tintern
    Fountain, Tintern
    Lion Inn Trelleck
    Ostrich, Clearwell
    Lamb Inn, Clearwell
    Wyndham Arms, Clearwell
    Boat Inn, Redbrook

  • Activities

    At the brewery

If Ed and Tori are around, it's usually possible to tour the brewery and talk/taste malts with Ed (closed Thursday and Sunday). If you did want to spend more time getting involved in the brewing process then we also offer 1 hour, half and full day courses which cost £25.00, £50.00 - £100.00. You will learn all about the brewing process as well as home cooked food. Finally, you will return home with some beers to enjoy!

    A little further afield...

A visit to Tintern Abbey is really amazing and once you are on the inside you will be surprised by its size. It is a wonderfully majestic site.

Tintern is also a lovely village to walk around with unusual and fascinating little shops! Tori's favourite is Stella Books as they have over 30,000 rare or out of print books - you will be bound to find a memorable story there!

For the adventure seeker: there is mountain biking, tree top zip wires, kayaking and wild river swimming! If any of these interest you then Ed & Tori will be happy to let you know all about them.

Clearwell Caves - 4500 Years of mining history in an amazing cave system.

Puzzlewood - magical woodland in the Forest of Dean.

Dean Steam Railway - Dean Forest railway.

A day out at Go Ape! Forest of Dean, 11 miles away, is always recommended for Tarzan swings and epic zip wires.

Ask Ed & Tori for more information on the local area.

~We had an amazing time at Kingstone Brewery this summer. Probably drank too much of their beer but it was too good not to!!! The accommodation was great, simple and rustic ... What you'd expect for glamping... The area is stunning, the hosts just want to make sure you are happy. We did a bread making course with Tori and loved our supper, Ed gave us a tour and tasting through all his ales( which he obviously likes :) ) loved the space.... So relaxing and naturally stunning.
