Just twenty minutes over the Severn from the M4/M5 interchange, Tintern is an excellent stopping off point for trips up to Northern England or down to Cornwall.
We are 2.5-3 hrs drive from London, London airports or Birmingham. Bristol, Cardiff, Cheltenham and Gloucester are all within a 50 minute drive.
We are on the main road (A466) at the Tintern Parva end of the village opposite the river and the St Michael’s Church. This is on the left if you are driving from Chepstow (just five minutes from the Abbey) towards Monmouth; or on the right as you first enter the village (a minute past The Old Station) if you are driving from Monmouth towards Chepstow.
From Cardiff: M4 to J23; M48 to J2; then follow A466.
From London: M4 to J21; M48 to J2; then follow A466.
From England it’s quickest to go over the Severn Bridge (Pont Hafren), not the Second Severn Crossing. A toll applies on both bridges. look out for the Chepstow exit immediately on the left as you leave the bridge.
There is a fast and direct service to and from London at Bristol Parkway. The nearest station is Chepstow.
